Scribbled Lives Week 22—Maya Angelou

Her favourite colour was pink. She studied dance on a scholarship. Throughout her life, she held varied roles including poet, author, playwright, and activist. I attempted to capture elements of Maya Angelou’s life and career in this selected list of titles.

Continuing to learn how to infuse life into built up caps to make them dance.

A note about design. Text on the left side was written from right to left to ensure lines of text ended at a target—an interesting exercise that led to some innovative letter forms!

Speedball C5, Brause EF66, gouache, and pencil on Saunders Waterford; 38.5 x 25.5 cm. Large letters are 20 mm high, pencil letters range from 3 to 6 mm.
