Haiku

Scribbled Lives Week 25—Haiku

This haiku came to me in the deep silence one night—Insomnia.

It was personal and became the inspiration for an alphabet design. The letters contain moon shapes. My intention was to render in black gouache on black Ingres, creating a velvety texture, but the fine hairlines didn’t lend themselves to this treatment. Here it is with horizontal fill strokes resembling the venetian blinds that glare back on sleepless nights. This piece took about three days to design and render by hand. Doing the fill strokes was meditative…leading to a good night’s sleep!
