New Year

Scribbled Lives Week 1—New Year

I’m looking forward to my second year with Scribbled Lives. The group has grown from 75 to 95 members. For this first prompt, we were asked to limit our page to text only, no images, and to interpret “new year” in any way we chose. As always, there’s no right answer!

In a week long workshop with Laurie Doctor, I’ve been using a white China marker on white paper to make marks. Of course, the lettering is not visible as I’m writing—an exercise in scribing blind. But when watercolour is brushed over the waxy marks, there’s a revelation—an “aha” moment.

Standing at the top of a new year, I cannot see what’s ahead, but as the unknown unfolds, I want to exclaim, “aha”!
