Forever Young

Scribbled Lives Week 34—Bob Dylan

I’ve long been a classical music fan, so Dylan has not been on my radar. However, I’ve always loved the rendition of “Forever Young” by the Canadian Tenors. This week, to my complete surprise, I learned that the songwriter is Bob Dylan!

Bob Dylan: “I wrote “Forever Young”…thinking about one of my boys and not wanting to be too sentimental. The lines just came to me…Some songs are like that.”

Dylan’s lyrics are published in an illustrated children’s book. While looking for just the right lettering style, I came across a lively font designed by Michael Clark.

Michael Clark: “Peanut is a font derived from ruling pen forms…I wanted to create a font that could be used for children’s literature.”

May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung and may you stay forever young. Bob Dylan

This painted sheet was left over from a commission. The beginnings of a ladder was already present and provided the inspiration for the graphic. It’s interesting how marks are made decades before they are needed!
