Memory Quilt

Part of a collage series on cognition and memory loss. The design is inspired by the handiwork of 19th century Gee’s Bend quilters of Boykin, Alabama. This one is based on their pattern called ‘Romans’.

Red Bister ink tends to bleed, so the quilt design was modified. Now the inky bleeds are camouflaged with confetti collage elements; they add to the message of the unravelling memory quilt.

Rice paper is dyed with Bister inks and hung to dry in the laundry room. Love that Bister palette!
