Scribbled Lives Week 2—Rivalry
After struggling with various concepts, a classical performance came to my mind.
The concert was titled “Duelling Pianos”. Two performers, each sitting at her own grand piano, faced each other on stage. They played in unison; they played different compositions at the same time; they played in conversational chorus—calling out and echoing back. Occasionally, the musicians glanced at each other through the open lids of their pianos, the eye contact creating another dialogue. Oh, such harmony!
To illustrate the concept, I chose lyrics from Paul McCartney’s famous song, Ebony and Ivory. Between the title texts (can you imagine keyboards?) monoline letters are written in juxtaposition (every other letter stands on its head) so the text can be read from each musician’s perspective as they face each other.
