I’ve joined a group of calligraphers committed to working in the studio on a regular basis. Scribbled Lives is a private Facebook group that has been operating for five years. A weekly prompt provides inspiration and focus for that week’s activity. Members post their work online in a forum that discusses techniques and materials. The commitment is for 50 weeks.
The first prompt of the year is “kindness”. Here’s my first effort for Scribbled Lives 2020.
Graphite (0.3 mm mechanical pencil) on Arches Text Wove; paper was distressed to convey the feeling of an aged document containing wisdom handed down through the generations. In his book (The Best Place to Work: the Art and Science of Creating an Extraordinary Workplace), author Ron Friedman writes the following dedication: “For my grandfather who taught me that…”

I’m anticipating next week’s prompt already!
