Scribbled Lives Week 40—Inspired by…
Members of Scribbled Lives express lettering in unique ways. This week’s prompt was to review previous posts to choose a member’s artwork to use as a springboard for our own creation. The inspiration could be the text, a technique, a tool, or material(s).
Revisiting posts to look for sources of inspiration and plagiarism was a fascinating exercise in itself! I’ve been inspired by many group members, all of whom have been a steady lifeline during the isolation of the pandemic. This weekend I’m celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving and expressing gratitude to each one of them for sharing their ideas and encouraging my efforts to grow as an artist!
In week 30, Nancy Hays Hills posted a pangram using letters inspired by Liesbet Boudens. They were drawn with a Zebra G pointed nib and filled with Bister inks (PDF) using a pointed brush.
My version features pencil drawn LB caps, Bister inks, and pointed brush on Fabriano watercolour paper. I will definitely play with this technique again!

Takeaways:
- how to mix and blend Bister inks.
- greater confidence using a fine pointed brush (Winsor Newton series 7, size 00)
- I must buy a boatload of Fabriano watercolour paper. The 90 lb hot press is a smooth soft paper that holds up to repeated erasure!
This is not the first time I’ve miscopied a quote… Sigh… The actual quote is “Do it now. Sometimes ‘later’ becomes ‘never’.”, commonly attributed to Anonymous.
