Scribbled Lives Week 20—Nature Tools

Our lilac bush is so abundant with blossoms that one cane leaned down to touch the soil and unbalanced the plant! After trimming, I saved several twigs to use as writing implements.

The cut flowers are now sipping out of vases all over the house while they wait for a poem to be written about them.

“Syringa vulgaris, your fragrance intoxicates me this May morning. Bow your lavish lilac heads and kiss the sun dappled earth.” A portion of the poem fit in a 10.5 x 10.5 cm (4 x 4”) square.

The lilac twigs were set aside to dry for several days before they were sharpened to a point; even so, the one I chose got mushy with use. Sumi ink and watercolours on watercolour paper.
