Scribbled Lives Week 7—Love Song
My favourite came to mind immediately—“When the Heart Finds a Reason” by guitarist Bob Sloan who composed the song as part of his vows and debuted it at our wedding.
After struggling with a handful of design concepts, I asked Bob to choose. Even then, the design continued to morph as the project unfolded. I like that fluidity about art creation.

The opening lyrics, “When the heart finds a reason, someone to believe in,“ are scribed in sumi ink using a folded brass pen and decorated with watercolours. In my stacks I uncovered a sheet of watercolour paper from La Papeterie Saint Armand. The surface is embossed with randomly shaped rectangles.
The opening lyrics are presented in a mosaic inspired by the handmade paper. It symbolizes the pieces of our lives settling into a contented pattern. There was even a small rectangle, perfect for the songwriter’s name!

Folded 6 mm brass pen using sumi ink and watercolours on Arches Text Wove. Text is cut into rectangles and pieced on Saint Armand paper.
