Normally, I’m grateful for the one valentine that comes my way in February. However, the notion of getting snail mail—from 26 strangers—on Valentine’s Day—sounded like an exciting prospect!

The Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild (CBBAG) put out a call inviting members to participate in a Valentine Mail Art exchange. Organizer Andrew Huot gathered a list of volunteers who each committed to design one piece of mail art—an art card or something something—and mail a copy to each of the other participants. Twenty-seven people signed up—mostly bookbinders and printmakers. With a little over two weeks until Valentine’s Day, I need to get started!
The notion of receiving 26 pieces of mail from unknown Valentines was exciting! I pondered what heartfelt message to send to a maker I’ve never met!
I’m off to gather seeds for a concept. I’m sure there’s red card stock buried here in the studio somewhere…
